Taxation is celebrating a successful end to its campaign for Government to announce the Budget date well in advance, after the Chancellor, George Osborne, today confirmed he will make his speech before the Commons on Wednesday 23 March 2011.
It has not yet been established whether this will be a fixed annual date in the Exchequer’s diary: a detail for which our magazine had lobbied.
Nevertheless, Taxation editor Mike Truman hailed a satisfactory end to a long campaign.
‘There were indications that when the Conservatives were in opposition the party’s shadow Treasury spokespeople were sympathetic to the idea of giving proper warning of the Budget. It is good to see our constant pressure on the subject carried to fruition,’ he said.
